for people from
Timor-Leste.

These scholarships are for people from Timor-Leste to come to Australia to undertake an intensive English Language study program.

Study in Australia Applications.

3:00PM – Timor-Leste Time)

For travel to Australia from approximately 1 July to December 2024.

Guidelines.

Who can Apply.

These Study in Australia scholarships are offered to workers and graduates from Timor-Leste.

Application Criteria.

All Applicants must submit an application by the due date, they must meet all eligibility criteria and provide a reference in the format requested.

Language Skills.

Applicants need to have a reasonable level of English proficiency. This is a  difficult course that is taught entirely in English.

Placements.

The successful applicants will have the opportunity to study in Melbourne, Australia, for several months to complete an intensive English language course.

Contributions.

These study in Australia scholarships are intended as a generous contribution towards travel, living and education costs.

Study Program.

Students are required to enrol in a study program consisting of one (1) week of General English. This is followed by twenty (20) weeks of intensive English for Academic Purposes.

Eligibility.

To be considered for a scholarship you must meet all the eligibility criteria:

CITIZENSHIP

be a resident of Timor-Leste.

02.

EMPLOYMENT

working in paid employment with a:

  • company of commercial business
  • government organisation
  • Non-Government Organisation (NGO), or a
  • community organisation.

03.

GRADUATE

have been awarded a degree or diploma from a university or technical college.

04.

REFERENCE

provide a reference from your current employer on letterhead.

05.

APPLICATION

  • submit a complete online application by the closure date.
  • Applicants that applied in 2023 but were unsuccessful can not apply in 2024 but may reapply in 2025.

06.

COVID-19

  • all successful Applicants must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • only Applicants that are shortlisted will be required to present proof of their COVID-19 vaccination at their interview.

Application Process.

What is the application process?

01.

BEFORE APPLICATIONS OPEN

  • Arrange a Reference, on letterhead, that addresses the requested information.

02.

APPLICATIONS OPEN

  • Check you meet all the eligibility criteria.
  • Make sure you submit your application by the closing date and time.

03.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE

  • After applications close you will receive an email from the Mangold Trust confirming we have received your application.

04.

SHORTLIST

  • The Mangold Trust considers all received and eligible applications.
  • You will receive an email to advise if you have, or have not, been shortlisted.
  • All shortlisted Applicants are provided with an appointment time for an interview and test.

05.

INTERVIEWS

  • Interviews and tests are conducted in Dili on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 March 2024.
  • All shortlisted Applicants will be required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination at their interview.

06.

OFFERS

  • The Mangold Trust will determine the successful scholarship recipients.
  • You will receive an email to advise if you have been successful or not.

Further information for Applicants.

What happens next if my application is successful?

You will be assisted to:

  • Apply for a place at the School
  • Apply for a student Visa for Australia after you receive a Certificate of Enrolment from the School*
  • Attend and complete a medical examination
  • Be allocated suitable homestay or other approved student accommodation
  • Arrive in Melbourne, Australia, ready to start your English course.

*Note that the Mangold Trust will cover the cost of the student Visa application. You will need to have a valid Passport arranged at your own cost.

What costs does the scholarshp cover?

The Mangold Study in Australia scholarship will cover the costs of:

  • the application and related costs to obtain a student Visa for Australia (but NOT the cost of your Passport)
  • the course tuition fees
  • one return economy air fare between Dili and Melbourne
  • basic homestay or other approved student accommodation organised by the Mangold Trust
  • equipment/books and essentials allowance, and
  • a reasonable living allowance, paid in instalments.

What are the conditions of the scholarship?​

If successful, you will be offered a Study in Australia scholarship and you will be required to sign a Scholarship Agreement.

The conditions of the scholarship are that you:

  • obtain a student Visa
  • must live in a homestay or other approved student accommodation in Melbourne arranged by the School, or arranged with an organisation approved by the Mangold Trust. The Mangold Trust will only pay accommodation expenses either to the School or to an approved organisation, and
  • make satisfactory progress in your studies. The School will provide the Mangold Trust with reports on your progress.

Where will I live in Australia?

The Mangold Trust arranges through the School, for each student to live in a homestay or other approved student accommodation in Melbourne. Sometimes students may stay in accommodation with another student. This is included in the scholarship.

This will provide a secure residence where some meals are provided and you are encouraged to practice speaking English.

How long will I be in Australia?

Successful Applicants will be in Australia for about 22 weeks. 

Where will I study?

The Mangold Trust has an arrangement with a school (“the School”) in Melbourne, for scholarship recipients to study English for Academic Purposes in a supportive and effective study environment.

Cancellation of the scholarship.

The Mangold Trust reserves the right to withdraw or terminate the scholarship at any time if  you:

  • engage in serious misconduct which in the opinion of the Mangold Trust is inconsistent with the aims of the Mangold Trust or in any other way brings the Mangold Trust into disrepute; or
  • fails to make satisfactory progress in your studies; or
  • do not comply with your student Visa conditions.
